SELF DEFENCE

Self defence is split up into different sections: three step sparring; one step sparring and self defence, which includes defending against grabs, knives, sticks and others. For three step sparring and one step sparring we have a set of basics for the students to learn to enable them to understand the concepts of self defence.

Three Step & One Step Sparring Basic Techniques

1. Right hand attack

Step back into back stance with your left leg and do an inward block with your right hand. Slide your right leg forwards into a long stance and do a back fist strike with your right hand aiming at the nose. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

2. Right hand attack

Step back into back stance with your left leg and do an inward block with your right hand. Grab hold of the attacker’s hand and use your right leg to do a side kick aiming at the ribs. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

3. Right hand attack

Step back into back stance with your right leg and do an outer forearm block with your left hand. Punch with your right hand to the body. Alternatively you can step to the right hand side into a horse riding stance and then punch. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

4. Right hand attack

Step back into back stance with your right leg and do an outer forearm block with your left hand. Draw your left leg back slightly then using your right leg do a front kick aiming at the groin. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

5. Right hand attack

Step to the right hand side into a horse riding stance and do a knife hand outer forearm block using your left hand. Do a knife hand strike using your right hand aiming at the neck. Higher belts should think about doing the block and strike together. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

6. Right hand attack

Step back into back stance using your right leg and do a knife hand outer forearm block using your left hand. Using your right leg do a turning kick aiming at the face. Use the opposite hand and leg for a left hand attack.

7. Right hand attack

Step to the left hand side so you are on the outside of the attacker’s body and do a knife hand outer forearm block using your right hand. Do a high section elbow strike aiming at the temple using your let hand. Then grab hold of the attacker’s wrist with your right hand, and pull them towards you as you do an elbow strike using your left hand and aiming at the nose. Use the other hand and leg or a left hand attack.

8. Right hand attack

Step to the left hand side so you are on the outside of the attacker’s body and do a knife hand outer forearm block with your right hand. Using your right leg do a turning kick to the body making sure you go under the attacker’s arm. Then without putting your foot down do a side kick aiming at the knee on the attacker’s front leg. Use the opposite hand and leg or a left hand attack.
